World Lung Cancer Day 2024: United for Lung Cancer Awareness and Strength

August 1st marks World Lung Cancer Day, a global observance dedicated to spreading awareness about lung cancer and supporting individuals impacted by this serious illness. This year’s theme, “Stronger Together: United for Lung Cancer Awareness,” emphasises the power of unity in the fight against lung cancer. We can share knowledge, support research, and provide the necessary resources for patients and their families by coming together.

Understanding Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is one of the most common and leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. It originates in the lungs and can spread to other body parts if not detected early. The disease is often categorised into two main types: non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). NSCLC is the more common type, accounting for about 85% of cases, while SCLC is less common but tends to grow and spread faster.
