What is PCO Syndrome?
The revised diagnostic criteria of PCOS is as follows, with two of the following being required :
- Oligo and /or Anovulation, i.e Menstrual Disturbance.
- Clinical and /or Biochemical Signs of Hyperandrogenism.
- PCO on the US
- Exclusion of other Etiologies (such as Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Androgen-Secreting Tumor, Cushing’s Syndrome ) by appropriate investigation of menstrual disturbance and hyperandrogenism.
Why does PCOS affect Fertility?
Oligo – Ovulation or An-Ovulation is the cause of PCOS related Infertility. This type of infertility is usually readily corrected through Ovulation induction and careful monitoring.
How is Obesity related to PCOS?
Obesity is present in about half of patients with PCOS. The Obesity is Android in type, with a waist – to- hip ratio exceeding 0.85
What is Hirsutism?
Hirsutism is the excessive male-type pattern of growth in the woman. It is important to differentiate hirsutism from generalized hair growth. Hirsutism can be caused by excessive androgen.
